Dear Village Residents,
Hope this letter finds everyone happy and healthy and ready for the busy holiday season. Our D.P.W. has started leaf pick up and will continue to do so till November 22nd.Make sure your trees know to be done dropping leaves by then or they miss out. Please be considerate to our employees (Harry and Matt) by keeping leaf piles and brush separate. For everyone’s safety leave your leaves on edge of grass and not in the road. They clog our storm sewers and are a traffic hazard.
Starting December 1st till April 15th no parking is allowed on Village streets between the hours of 1:00 am and 6:00 am. Thanks for your cooperation and sorry for any inconvenience. Plowing and salting will begin as soon as it’s needed.(not to soon I hope) Look for the new snowplow soon as we had to replace the 12 year old truck. Also, it was time to replace our oldest police car. We have a new SUV coming for the same money we spent on our last car. With the usual good financial planning of your clerk (thanks Karen) and board we have been able to save enough to replace both.
I think it is safe to say the nightmare we will call…. C.C.I. is over. I apologize again and thank all of you for your patience. I think everyone’s grass should grow now. In the spring we will come back and put some fertilizer/weed killer pellets where new grass is growing.
Mark it down on your calendar; garbage pick up is going to be on Tuesday, November 26th instead of Thursday that week because garbage men celebrate Thanksgiving also. Remember garbage cans are to go out no sooner than Wednesdays evening and brought in Thursday evenings after pick up.
This winter help our fire department and us by keeping fire hydrants clear of snow. Be neighborly and help clear your elderly neighbors out by keeping theirs clear also. If there is a fire you could save precious time for our volunteers. And always take time to thank the fire dept. when you see them around the community that’s all the pay they get!
Halloween party is Saturday October 26th at 7:00 at Vernon Fire Hall. Don’t be scared to come on out and join the fun. Costume contest for different age groups. Snacks, prizes, drinks and lots of fun!!!
Halloween is Thursday October 31st this year. Please watch out for kids that night! Drive slowly when going through the village and beware of little spooks running from house to house.
Tree lighting and visit from Santa at the park on November30th.A great way to get the whole community in the holiday spirit. More details to come. Look for them on our website www.villageofvernonny.org .
Elections this year to be held Tuesday March 18th 2014. 2 trustee seats Travis Yoxall and Frank Emmerich’s seats are up. They are 4-year terms and the biggest hassle is me calling at dinnertime! Also Village Judge William Osborn’s 4-year term is up. Petitions can be picked up at the village hall. Must be completed and turned in by February 11th 2014
